Welcome to the Great Smoky Mountains

On this page, you will learn more about the Great Smoky Mountains National Park. You will learn things such as why it's famous, what to do if you visit, and more!

Great Smoky Mountains History

The 1920s was full of change, growth, and conservation. Former President Coolidge established the Great Smoky Mountains in the late 1920s and the goal was to save a protect the wildlife and forest that made up the area. The two states where the Great Smoky Mountains run through , Tennessee and North Carolina, both donated chunks of land which contributed to the Great Smoky Mountains. During the Great Depression a group called the Civilian Conservation Corps was created. The individuals that made up the CCC contributed to the construction of the Great Smoky Mountains by "building roads, trails, fire towers, and more." (History & Culture - Great Smoky Mountains National Park (U.S. National Park Service), n.d.).
