Module 1 

Objectives 
  • You should be able to identify the states that make up the Midwest Region. 
  • You should be able to state at least two National Parks located in the Midwest. 

Before you get started

You will need to make sure you have the following materials:
1. A map of the United States (select the PDF icon)
2. A green crayon or colored pencil
3. A pencil
4. Crayons, colored pencils or markers 
5. Access to Explore the Midwest on Epic (select the image to access the book)
6. The Midwest activity (select the PDF icon)

7. KWL chart (select the PDF icon)

Steps

1. Fill out the K column of the KWL chart and write down what you already know about National Parks or the regions. Then, fill out what you are wanting to learn through this. 
2. Using the map provided in the Midwest Region section, color the states that make up the Midwest using the green crayon or colored pencil. 
3. Learn about the Midwest by reading Explore the Midwest on Epic.
4. Navigate through the sections titled Badlands National Park, Cuyahoga Valley National Park, and Mount Rushmore
5. Show what you have learned about the Midwest by completing The Midwest Activity. In this activity, there are three boxes. In the box titled "National Park," pick one National Park that you learned about and write 2-3 complete sentences about it. Then, draw and color a picture of the National Park. In the box titled "Wildlife," you will pick one animal that lives in the Midwest that you learned about, and then write 2-3 complete sentences about the animal. Next, you will draw and color a picture of that animal. In  the last box titled "Industry," you will pick one industry that is popular in the Midwest and write 2-3 complete sentences about that industry. Finally, you will draw and color a picture of something that represents that industry. 
6. Look at your KWL chart, in the 'W' column, is there anything that you wanted to learn that you did learn today? If so, place a check mark by it. In the 'L' column write down two new things that you learned.
