NATIONAL PARKS
Welcome to Shenandoah National Park
On this page, you will learn more about the Shenandoah Nationa. You will learn things such as why it's famous, what to do if you visit, and more!
Shenandoah History
The history of Shenandoah is not like other National Parks. Before it was established as a National Park it was first lived on for many centuries by settlers and was later given to the nation. Over 1,000 Virginia officials had gotten the land privately and then later donated it. The fact that the land was populated and private made it unique compared to other National Parks. Those who lived in Shenandoah primarily did lumbering, however, due to forests coming back, you would never know. In the 1930s during the Great Depression, the Civilian Conservation Corps was created and those workers built the Shenandoah National Park. Since its establishment, many visitors come to experience the Shenandoah National Park because of the waterfalls, mountain streams, 500 miles of trails, landscapes, and more.
