  • You should be able to describe a National Park located in the Southern Region.

Before you get started

You will need to make sure you have the following materials:
1. The map of the United States used in previous modules (select the PDF icon)
2. A blue crayon or colored pencil
3. A pencil
4. Crayons, colored pencils or markers
5. Access to Explore the South on Epic (select the image to access the book)
6. Postcard Activity (select the PDF icon)
Explore the South
7. KWL chart used in previous modules (select the PDF icon)

Steps

1. Using the map provided in the South Region section, color the states that make up the South using your blue crayon or colored pencil.
2. Learn about the South by reading Explore the South on Epic.

3. Learn about the Great Smoky Mountains, Big Bend, and Bryce Canyon National Park which are located in the South.
4. Show what you have learned by completing the postcard activity (select the PDF).
Directions: Now that you have learned about three different National Parks located in the South, pick one National Park and write a postcard to a friend or family. In the postcard you need to talk about which National Park you went to, what activities you did while there, and if you would recommend whoever you are writing to, to go. After writing your postcard, make sure to draw a picture on the blank side, that appropriately represents the National Park you went to.
5. Look at your KWL chart, in the 'W' column, is there anything that you wanted to learn that you did learn today? If so, place a check mark by it. In the 'L' column write down two new things that you learned.
